BRMC: I Gotta Say I'm Diggin' It!
BRMC's follow up to the Gospel/Blues tinged or rather drenched "Howl" is due out in the US on May 1. You can listen to two new songs here including the first single Weapon Of Choice! Check it out for yourself. I gotta say I'm diggin' it. I've enjoyed all of the records thus far-I was just hoping for a little more rock this time out. I think we're gonna get it!

Damon Albarn and Massive Attack launch anti-nuke site
No-Bomb takes on UK government's weapon's spending
Damon Albarn and Massive Attack's Robert del Naja (3D) are among those behind a new website encouraging an artistic protest again the UK government buying more nuclear weapons.
The duo have launched no-bomb.com with Gorillaz' Jamie Hewlett and artist Peter Kennard. The site will exhibit works that oppose spending money on replacing the current Trident nuclear arsenal. An example of Hewlett's work is pictured.
"Over the next three weeks, until the vote on Trident renewal in parliament, no-bomb will be a continually expanding online exhibition and protest," explained the new site. "The aim is to get people thinking, talking, reading, protesting - to make a noise round an issue that has had shamefully little public or political debate."
Although the new venture is not connected to any particular political organisation, they are encouraging people to join CND's march against Trident, which takes place in London tomorrow (February 24).
"The UK Government wants to spend £76 billion of our money on renewing the UK's nuclear defence system, Trident. We don't think we should be spending billions on weapons of mass destruction and we don't believe we'll be any safer with a new generation of Trident," they added.
"We don't want to go quietly into the darkness of a new nuclear age. If you want to let the Government know that you don't want Trident, you should march in London tomorrow. Assemble 12 noon, Speaker's Corner, Hyde Park."

The Jesus & Mary Chain: JimTalks!
Courtesy of Brooklyn Vegan:
The Jesus & Mary Chain return to play their first shows in nine years when they appear at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio California on Friday April 27th and at the Summercase Festival in Madrid (Boadilla del Monte) and Barcelona (Parc del Forum) on July 13th and 14th.
Jim Reid answers some questions:
1/ why are you doing the show now?
"Well, I would say 'why not?' there are many reasons really. Firstly it's taken this long for me and William to get to a point where it would be realistic to do it, and to some degree each of us assumed the other wouldn't be interested, and it was only after we talked about it that we realised this. Also Coachella were very persistent."
2/ The last show was in 1998?
"Yes, the last Mary Chain gig was in 1998 and was such a bloody awful mess, too much drink, too many drugs, nobody seeing eye to eye on anything and the band just blew up, and I suppose you could say this is another good reason for our reformation, cause that was no way for the Mary Chain to end."
3/ William lives in LA and you live in Devon?
"You can imagine the problems this presents."
4/ Who else is in the band?
"On bass it's Phil King, on drums it's Loz Colbert, and on second guitar is Mark Crozer, and of course myself and William."
5/ Will there be more shows and an album?
"I really don't know. Maybe. I think we would like to and we're looking at another show or 2."
6/ Are William and yourself working on solo albums?
"Yes, both are at the recording stage at the moment, and both will hopefully be out later in the year."

Control
(Mojo) Directed by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn, Control is set to open in UK cinemas in March, 2 years after its American producers Orian Williams and Tom Eckhert first contacted Mojo to discuss their new project. Eckert has spoken about their lengthy effort to get the film off the ground, having optioned the rights to 'Touching from a distance' in the late 90's. ''I don't think there are many really great stories out there.'' said Todd. ''But this is one of them.''
Williams, in particular, felt it crucial to find a director whom both Deborah and the surviving members of Joy Division could trust. Though Anton Corbijn had yet to direct a full feature film, the Dutchman’s credentials were impeccable. In 1980 he moved from Holland to Britain specifically to photograph the group, his iconic shots for NME launching a career that would see him in the 80's and beyond become first choice lensman for U2, Depeche Mode and R.E.M.
Indeed it was non other than Bono who told Williams at a party in 2004, ''You've got to get Anton to direct this movie''.
''Initially, (Corbijn) did not want to make a film about a musician”, explains Williams. ''But then he realized it wasn't a conventional biopic, it was a love story.'' Once on board the director's first stipulation was that the film should be shot in moody black and white. The result, says Williams has an ''abstract poetic, epic feel, but it's not arty, its not a fever dream. Its traditionally mapped out- Antons a big fan of old English movies, he loves David Lean, Truffuant, Jim Jarmush, (Loach's) Kes.''
Control - part-financed by Depeche Mode's Martin Gore - has, it seems won some important fans. The surviving members of Joy Division saw a preview on November 28th, reporting to Mojo that they ''very much approve of it and will be backing it 100%''. ''Initially the group were disinterested in the film, but at the same time were intrigued and wanted to get involved'' says Williams.''When we first met them backstage at a gig in Liverpool in 2005, Bernard said 'Just have some fun with it.' We did and the finished Movie is amazing.''
Control will be released in spring 2007, for more info go to www.controlthemovie.com

The Pandas
Check these guys! The Pandas! Hailing from Nevada and sounding like a mix between The Warlocks and BJM. Listen to Crystal Highway below and check them on on myspace for a few more songs.
The Pandas Are Not Cute and Furry. They are a Rockin Band. As a matter of fact, they aren't even named after the black and white animal. They take their name from a slang term used to describe Swedish girls who wear dark makeup on pale white faces. - I Rock Cleveland

Arab Strap: The Great Lost Arab Strap Album
So the story goes..."After ten years, six studio albums, three live albums and all manner of everything else, we've decided the story should come to a close. There's no animosity, no drama, we simply feel we've run our course and The Last Romance seems to us the most obvious and logical final act of the Arab Strap studio adventure. Everybody likes a happy ending!"
Anyhow, I've come across "The Great Lost Arab Strap Album"...it's called Coming Down and it predates Malcolm. Aidan thinks it's shit! Anyway check it out for yourself.
